News Director

Michael Petter is the newest member of the East Coast FM News team, joining in September of 2008. Michael is quite well traveled, having lived in Texas (but only until the age of three months), northern Ontario, northern Saskatchewan, northern Alberta, and northern British Columbia before settling in Pictou County. Michael likes to think he was born for radio. He likes to share his memory of being a child going on road trips with his parents and getting them to stop the tape between songs so he could do 'The Road Report It's 300km to Edmonton, and 50km to Slave Lake'. Michael's education background is actually in teaching, as a theater arts major, and has taught everything from Grade four to University level drama classes. He is now taking that training and applying it to the voice work in front of the microphone at the News Dept. of East Coast FM. Michael also hosts a weekly local hockey show -Slapshot- and does colour cometary for the Crushers live broadcasts. Like Matt, Michael has also competed at the National Reach for the Top championships, with the St. Albert High (St. Albert, Alberta) back to back provincial champions in 1990 and 91. Both times, losses to Ontario eliminated the Skyhawks, but he's not bitter. Michael is the father of three wonderful kids, and has an incredibly supportive wife who encouraged him through the switch from teaching into following his lifelong dream of getting into radio.

Michael is a proud Parrothead. Michael is as much a sports nut as anyone in the news department. Having lived in Saskatchewan, his favorite years are 1989 and 2007, but he hopes he doesn't have to wait another 18 years.
