What is Christmas? Is Santa Clause real? Well as I and thousands of Canadians fight a war for the freedom of countless souls I have come to this conclusion. In the life of a soldier we always question many things but there are truths that are ingrained into the fabric of life itself. Christmas is the remembrance of the birth of the Jesus, the only man to freely die for the redemption of mankind. As I walk in the desert of the land of David it is a surreal experience to realize the bible and all its characters walked in the same sand that I now trod in. In the hustle and bustle of Christmas season the hearts and minds of the people all over the christian world are filled with joy and love. Like a great blanket of warmth the spirit of Christmas fills millions of believers. In the days leading up to Christmas and indeed Christmas day please take a brief minute and give thanks to the soldiers of Canada standing in a foreign desert defending the country you live in that is founded on christian beliefs. We may not be home to the comfort of our children and loved ones but our hearts are with them. Christmas is the time for each of us to give thanks for the life we have and thank god for his sacrifice he delivered to humanity. As for Santa Clause of course he is real. He lives in the heart of every child and parent. It is the job of every Canadian soldier no matter where they are at to protect the most famous Canadian ever to travel the earth. Yes Santa may be a jolly fat elf but he live in the sovereign north of the Canadian territory of Nunivak. It my sworn duty, to protect every citizen of this great nation. If you who read this question the citizenship of the big guy with all the good stuff I ask you to simply consult a world map. The North Pole resides inside Canada’s sovereign borders. So to my children and all children worldwide the spirit of Christmas is alive in all of us. In a final thought from the desert of Afghanistan Merry Christmas to my family and friends. Though I may not be home my heart is already there. To my children Joshua and Sarah, as I rise each day you are the first thought in my heart and as I go to sleep I thank god for your influence in my life. May your Christmas be wonderful. To the families who have family out of country on this Christmas remember that those who want to destroy freedom take no days off for Christmas. I wonder if Santa has CAA for his sled, if he needs a driver I would be glad to volunteer. Merry Christmas everyone

To Corp. Ward, I heard your message today and was so moved, it is beautiful and so true. Always remember we are Very Proud of you Guys and Gals. Even through I don't know you all, you are in our thoughts and prayers. Take care, be safe and remember you are making a difference in alot of lives.

Gerald Ward - Afganastain
Monday, November 9th, 2009

Good day, today is another day in the in the desert of Afghanistan in this, our month of remembrance. November eleventh is almost upon us and we the living remember those of us who have fallen for the freedom so many take for granted. In my travels across the desert I have seen absolute poverty and despair. I have been in a convoy that rolled through a settlement in complete rune, a ghost town of shattered mud huts and destroyed compounds from war.In this ghost town I gazed upon the large graveyard, beside a bombed out mud walled Mosque, with the graves of the souls who lost their lives as their homes were destroyed in some forgotten time. Where barefoot children rush to the roadside to wave at the Canadians as we file past in our modern fleet of armoured trucks. Where an old lady, in her thirties, tends to a dying child as she walks miles to the nearest allied fortress to get medical aid, hopefully not in vain. I walk in a land where modern housing of wood, iron and brick are replaced by mud, sticks and thatched straw roofs. Where open sewers are at the curb side. On the streets, cars share the road with horse and donkey driven carts. Then I ask myself this question, would I want my children to have this for their future ?I want a future where girls go to school, where medical services are free and where our government looks after the infrastructure of out towns and cities. This is freedom. In this month of November every citizen of this great nation needs to reflect on their life and give thanks to the fallen men and woman who have fell for the freedom we so enjoy and take for granted. To my fellow fallen comrades, job well done rest easy for no breaches have occurred on your watch. We the living remember those who have fallen and vow to hold the line of freedom even at the cost of our own life. We are the mighty red and white, through shear will and might we make the imposable possible. We are called by Taliban, the drivers of the green machines of death that puke out infidel. I am one such driver and I will not stop until my mission is complete and I rest on the sands of the ocean in a small town called Pictou in the beautiful province of Nova Scotia. Where I can lay back and listen to children play and know the darkness at the edge of chaos is held off by the brave Canadian soldiers that sacrificed so much for the nation I love. On this November eleventh remember that,” freedom is not free to the soldier standing their post on the front line, for they are the true vanguard of freedom”. Quote: Cpl Ward, G.P; Task Force 3-09

A polite request from a listener: Could you please fix your "Listen Live" button so it works on something other than Internet Explorer with windows? We have migrated to another OS and am using Firefox, but can't listen to you any more. You have a lot of potential listeners who don't have windows PCs or don't use Internet Explorer that cannot listen to you. (That goes for my parents as well)

From Admin: you can get a free player called VLC Media Player - it's for Windows, Mac OS, Linux OS, BeOS etc. Enter http://ecfm.ca:8000 under Media/Open Network menu

I would like to comment on your "Hour of Beautiful Music" that you featured this summer. It was a real treat for those of us that don't get much of that beautiful music during the week. I hope you find a spot somewhere else to carry on with it. I also want to thank you for carrying "Hymnbook". This morning Glen Cooper introduced me to Kathleen Battle by playing her rendition of "AVE Maria". Beautifully done, with a simplicity that is rarely found. I looked her up on the internet and found more of her music. What a treat!

As the years go by and my head takes rest in the worst places a sole need be, my heart resides in the place I call home. Weather it be training or deployment, my radio station is CKEC. Home to me is Pictou County in a small place called West River Station. I want you the fokes at CKEC to know I've listened to you guys in a trench in the desert, dreamed of the murb when sleep was a distant memory. Thought the pictou water front was more spectacular than standing atop a mountain gazing at the view. With every adventure,be it living in the desert or in Canada's true north; enduring bone chilling cold, I look forward to hearing CKEC Because it represents home. To all that read This, remember that the greatest place on earth is the mighty red and white. To have peace and freedom, comes with a price of her sons blood. To those who have fallen in the past, present and future for our way of life, job well done. To my brothers and sisters in the sand box today stand fast your post even in death because we are Canadian and we together will accomplish the impossible. I will play in the sand soon. As I travel beyond the wire CKEC will be playing in my sole because it is home. CKEC and lobster to a pictou county boy is heaven. to my Buddy in the box for 56 days straight, you show them what a pictou boy is made of, give em hell. when you come home I will fly home with you, Sit on the Merb, drink Keiths, eat lobster. and tell stupid war stories. Till then remember your 5s and 20s, stay sharp. To all service pers, 1 SVC Bn rocks your world, whoowaa
